Kate Gwilliam is an embroidery designer from London. I asked her how she’s staying sane and creative during isolation.
What positivity has isolation brought to your creativity?
I feel that I have more time, I am not panicking about the fact I haven’t made any sales, more getting on with things I have had planned for so long. Don’t get me wrong, sales are very much lacking, but I am hoping that by making more consistent and considered choices I will keep my clients and customers interested.
What are you doing to keep sane?
Watching quite a lot of telly, probably not the best use of time, but what can you do. Checking in on my creative friends, talking about collaborations.
Fave snacks you’ve been eating while being at home?
ALL OF THE SNACKS, but mainly apples cut into rocking horses (a childhood thing) and cheddar cheese.
Can you share any good online stores to buy things for embroidery?
I really like Sequin World and Josy Rose for all sequin things. For threads, etc I use Barn Yarns mainly. For fabric and felt I go to Cloth House and the Wool Felt Company.
First thing you’ll do when the lockdown’s over?
Kiss my boyfriend and go to the pub and probably make an overly dramatic pilgrimage to Liberty.
