Staying Sane With Isobel

Isobel Macmillan-Scott is an East London baker specialising in wedding and celebration cakes. I started following her on Instagram a few weeks ago and found her work exciting and inspiring. I asked her how she’s staying creative and sane during isolation.

What positivity has isolation brought to your creativity?

I would say the positivity that isolation has bought me is just stopping completely and taking stock of what I am doing as a creative. Looking back at previous work, not feeling the pressure to keep coming up with the new. The quiet, and the birds, shopping in small local businesses instead of supermarkets and just scaling everything right back.

What are you doing to keep sane?

I’m doing a lot of cooking to keep sane, planning meals, being inventive with what I have. Cooking things I’ve always wanted to try cooking. The walks in the evening in the quiet streets around our home looking at all the different houses and gardens and people’s lives.

Fave things you’ve been baking while being at home?

Snacks have included cake of course! Chocolate Guinness, banana bread and cookies. This has got to stop though as at this rate I’m going to roll out of isolation!

What Instagram accounts are inspiring you?

The accounts that currently inspire me are @iamlaurajackson @_kerrylockwood_ @loraavedian @millitaylor and lots lots more.

First thing you’ll do when the lockdown’s over?

First thing I am going to do when lockdown is over, go to the pub with friends and continuously hug them and go and hug my family for about a week.
